R.E.

At North Star 265° we provide a rich and diverse curriculum that ensures an effective and enjoyable education.

R.E.

Intention

At North Star, we want to ensure our pupils have a secure understanding of others’ cultures and beliefs, respect others including people with different faiths and be confident in sharing and discussing their views in a safe space. We will equip them with the knowledge and understanding of different world beliefs and views to help them flourish as citizens in a diverse society. This contributes to promoting a positive and inclusive school and equips children with the confidence to share their opinions.

Implementation

Our whole curriculum is shaped by our school vision which aims to do something different for those who need more, regardless of background, ability or additional needs. Our RE is taught as part of our Foundation curriculum and topics are taught throughout the year. Our rolling 2 year curriculum can be seen below.

Foundation-Curriculum-2-Year-Cycle

As part of this, pupils learn about a range of ideas and beliefs and that are all to be equally valued. The religions studied represent those most represented across the UK: Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Hinduism and Buddhism. Pupils are supported to develop skills of enquiry, interpretation, evaluation and reflection as they discuss their own beliefs and compare those to the main world religions.

In addition to this, pupils learn about religious festivals as they are happening through school assemblies and have the opportunity to visit religious sites and hear from visitors. Throughout religious education, there is a strong emphasis placed on respecting others, promoting open-mindedness and curiosity within the school community.

Impact
By the time our pupils leave North Star 265, they will be kind, respectful and curious learners who:

  • Can reflect on and share their personal beliefs about a range of big questions
  • Can compare and contrast different religions, identifying both similarities and differences
  • Know a range of religious stories that show a variety of different beliefs and thoughts
  • Have had opportunities to listen to expert speakers from each of the main world religions
  • Can understand and respect religious differences in others, both in school and in the wider community
  • Have shared and celebrated religious festivals as they have happened
